Reliability
Build a stable Zigbee network throughout the home
Coordinator placement, powered routers and simple ways to diagnose uneven coverage.
Reading time: 8 minStart with the coordinator
Place the coordinator in a clear, central area. A strong antenna cannot compensate for a metal cabinet or immediate proximity to a Wi-Fi router.
Build the mesh
Permanently powered Zigbee devices generally act as routers. Distribute them before adding battery sensors at the edges of the home.
- add routers from nearest to farthest
- allow the mesh to settle after moving devices
- avoid regularly switching off key routers
Reduce interference
Zigbee and 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi share spectrum. Coherent channel choices, physical distance and an Ethernet coordinator reduce radio collisions.
